Abstract

In an enterprise/data center there will be multiple brand of systems/servers. Some time using resources in a given server may not be possible due to lack of license when the server / partitions work load needed them. Here, exchanging licenses based on work load within heterogenous server environment and use resources effectively. Also adding/removing servers/systems dynamically to the enterprise server environment is addressed.

Problem: Currently there is no method to assign processor licences dynamically based on dynamic workload in a heterogeneous server/data center/computing environment/cloud computing environment. Because of lacking the above mentioned method with flexibility in adding/removing dynamic servers, Business impact due to lack of effective management / configuration of available resources in servers / computing environment.

Known Solution: Currently licenses are getting exchanged thru available system pool CoD and it is limited to only to the homogenous servers and it is static.

Disadvantages of Known Solution:

Dynamic movement of licenses across heterogeneous system are not available based on the work load.

Manual intervention is needed.

Server/Partition/application may not be getting the licenses/resources at the right time when needed.

License allocation is limited only to homogeneous system.

Proposed solution is to identify and use a method to determine workload type with existing tools and assign licenses/resources dynamically by using available heterogenous enterprise pooled resources without human intervention.

Step 2: Dynamically Evaluate heterogeneous systems/partitions and determine workload type Step 3: Dynamically release the licenses to Heterogeneous global CoD...
