ABSTRACT

Techniques are presented herein to facilitate more productive collaboration with participants during and after an online conference. Participants are displayed in a list according to a priority that depends on the participant's expertise and involvement in a meeting. Detailed information for a participant can be shown when that participant is speaking. External search capabilities are provided to obtain even more information about a participant without the need to leave the online meeting.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

For an online/web conference session, the meeting host usually invites some guests, related domain experts or other participants to join the meeting. The host\presenter may have some material to present, and the guests will be involved to discuss various topics and provide comments.

Often the host may introduce to all the participants the title and background of a guest. Most people are familiar with each other, but if there are very few people attending the meeting who are new to the group, the meeting host may skip the introduction section, and those new people will miss the introduction of the guest. Also, a person could join the meeting late, and therefore miss an introduction at the beginning of the meeting. As a result, some participants may not know enough about the guest to understand his/her domain knowledge in time for the meeting when the guest is speaking. This can inhibit a productive meeting. Participants may run an online search on the guest, but that does not always retrieve the most relevant information about a person.

The goal of the solution presented herein is to enhance user collaboration in an online meeting. To this end, a top participant list is created that contains the participants most related or experienced for the particular topic.

When people are speaking, information for the speaker's background and expertise is shown, and along with the duration that they have been speaking. In addition, means are provided to search for more information on the speaker.

1. Top Participant List

In current online conferences, the participant list is sorted by display name in alphabetical order, for example. The people who are important to this meeting are not indicated in the participant list. As a result, after the meeting ends, most participants forget who the important people were in that meeting. This wastes an opportunity for further communication.

A mechanism is provided to prioritize people in the participants list.

1) First, people are arranged in the participant list who have expertise most related to the topic being discussed during the meeting. Ever...
