Abstract

The wind box on a posimetric feeder uses a reduction of the cross-sectional area of the channel flow to increase the velocity of the conveying gas that can merge with the solids (coal). The nitrogen flow released on the column of coal via sintered tubes at the top can create a fluidization effect overcoming the natural skin factor of the solids and facilitating the process of conveying the mix of gas and solids to the outside high pressure port.

The wind box on a posimetric feeder uses a reduction of the cross-sectional area of the channel flow to increase the velocity of the conveying gas that can merge with the solids (coal). The concept that the shearing forces of the accelerated flow will overcome the “skin factor” of the solids on the posimetric discharge cylinder may not always be corroborated. Instead, the injection of nitrogren at the same pressure as the incoming flow to the main port to the chamber but using special alloy tubing can penetrate the column of coal connecting to a port on the cylinder. The upper part of the tubing can be made of sintered material, which will allow for a uniform distribution of the nitrogen on the last inch to the very end and at the same level of the main stream current of nitrogen. This nitrogen flow released on the column of coal can create a fluidization effect overcoming the natural skin factor of the solids and facilitating the process of conveying the mix of gas and solids to the outside high pressure port.

Injecting a stream of high pressure nitrogen to the column of coal from the inside out may raise the last about one inch of the coal layer from the surface thus creating a fluidized effect which may break apart the resistance of the solids to the shearing effect of the main port stream of nitrogen.  Insert tubes of ~1/2 diameter high alloy, abrasion resistant running in parallel to the cylinder walls and connect to external ports...
