Disclosed is a method and system for determining culturally appropriate naming convention for a contact. The naming convention for the contact is customized according to a custom and culture of the one or more contacts of the user. The method and system includes changing the order in which a family name and a given name of a contact appears. The method and system also identifies and displays gender of the contact while displaying the name. The method and system can be used for dynamically updating a business card. This provides a culturally sensitive business card.

In an embodiment, a business card of one or more contacts is uploaded in a written / recorded format. Thereafter, naming convention and tips of nationality/geography of a contact are obtained as illustrated in Fig. 1.

As illustrated in Fig. 1, a preferred full name of the contact is obtained. In an embodiment, the preferred full name may be constructed. Additionally, a sound recording of full name of the contact is obtained. A given name of the contact is

obtained and a sound recording of the given name is retrieved. Thereafter, it is checked whether the contact has a nickname that may be useful for naming conventions for a particular geographic area. For example, if a nickname is popular and easily understood in United States of America, then the method and system checks for such nicknames.
