The present invention proposes a technique to introduce turbulation on a narrow cavity rib in an airfoil. The technique includes positioning turbulator on a cavity rib of the affected passages in the airfoil.

BACKGROUND

The present invention relates generally to an airfoil and more particularly to a technique for positioning a turbulator on cavity ribs of the airfoil.

Generally, pull planes of cast serpentine cooling passage in an airfoil are minimized to form V-cavities. The V-cavities have narrow faces on the concave side of the airfoil.

A conventional technique includes an angled opposite wall turbulence promoter with at least one gap for dust removal.

Another conventional technique includes turbulators, which stagger on opposite walls of the cavities.

One other conventional technique includes inverted V-shaped turbulator with diffusion slot for a turbine airfoil cooling passage.

However, the conventional techniques do not provide casting of turbulators on cavity ribs.


It would be desirable to have an efficient technique to cast in turbulators on the cavity ribs in the airfoil.

Figure 2 depicts position of turbulators on the cavity rib to provide heat transfer enhancement.
