Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for generating user segment based on user notes content.  The method and system analyzes notes of a user from a user’s computer or mobile device, identifies a category to which it belongs and then targets a relevant advertisement to the user.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for generating user segment based on user notes content.

The method and system detects a potential interest of a user by analyzing parameters associated with a note such as, but not limited to, a type of note written or recorded by the user, time of recording or deleting the note and time, day and month of accessing or recording the note, and frequency and duration of accessing the note.  The system obtains the parameters from user accounts on the user’s mobile device or computer such as, but not limited to, a user application or email.  The parameters are stored on the mobile device that can access the user application.  After detecting the interest, the method and system targets advertisements to the user.  The method and system stores history of advertisements displayed to the user and activities performed in response to removal of the note.  The system decides type of advertisements to be displayed and a manner in which to display the advertisements to the user, such as, but not limited to, textual, graphical and audio.

The method and system classifies notes into different categories such as, but not limited to, groceries notes, appointment notes, things to do notes and product notes.  Groceries notes are specific and clear and correspond to kind of grocery the user usually purchases.  Based on the groceries notes, advertisements such as, but not limited to, wine, soft drinks, beer and cereal are targeted to the user.  Appointment notes define useful tasks for a user. 

For instance, the user’s interest is captured based on an appointment of a baseball game.  Advertisements that are targeted to the user based on these appointment notes are, but not limited to, sport, gifts and hobbies. 

Things to do notes can be combined with geo location and time to obtain information about user’s interest.  For instance, this can include, sending flowers to love ones or for condolence, buying gifts and working at gym.  Examples of geo location includes, the user visiting a bar every Friday evening, going for a movie every Saturday night or going for golf every other weekend between March and July.  It further includes, doing groceries in a certain pattern and taking a vacation to Hawaii during Thanksgiving.  Advertisements that are targeted to the user based on things to do notes are, but not limited to, flowers, gifts and membership.
