Method for Providing an Optimal Charging Schedule for an Electric Car

Electricity costs are increasing periodically and vary over a time of a day or over a day of a week. Generally, electric cars are high consumers of electricity and a charging schedule for an electric car should meet driving requirements of owner /driver of the electric car. However, current charging schedule methods are not based on the driving requirements of the owner/driver.

Disclosed is a method for providing an optimal charging schedule for an electric car .

In accordance with the method, factors such as price variations in electricity, driving requirements of the owner/driver and location of charging stations are determined for calculating an optimal charging schedule.

The price variations in electricity may be determined by collecting information from price change model. Further, information regarding driving requirements of the owner/driver is based on historical driving patterns and scheduled driving itinerary. Additionally, location of one or more charging stations that are on a route that is scheduled to be taken by the owner/driver is determined.

Such factors along with available charging time are taken into account to estimate an optimal charging schedule for the electric car. Later, the owner/driver may schedule the charging time and location in the future and continuously optimize the charging schedule as time passes.
