Visual social framework for source code indication

Traditionally, software developers and architects work in teams while each team member may have different skills and experience. Software development process may be a long process that can take months, years and in the case of enterprise software, even decades. During that long process, many of the team members may come across the same pieces of code and review them, without a convenient way to share their thoughts and professional opinion on those pieces of code. Traditional code comments allow developers to specify some information about the purpose of a certain code segment but lack the ability of showing thoughts and reviews of other team members. In addition, traditional comments does not show the essence and the sentiment of the comment in a clear visual way and requires the team member to read carefully the entire comment to try and understand the purpose of the following code. Without that information that other team members may supply and without a clear intuitive visual

way to convey that information, developers may make a lot of mistakes while writing new code and while changing existing code.

For example when a developer tries to solve a bug that assigned to him, he debugs large sections of code that most of them he is barely familiar with , there is no visual and clear information that could help the developer understand the status of the source code and by that easing the process of finding the source code that cause the bug and fix it.

"Social interactive code development US 20120272207 A1 " provides a system for social interactive code development which includes an activity monitor and a social feedback engine for initiating a communication based on triggering a predefined access but does not provide a method for presenting source code status based on social designation using visual indication .

"Tracking stale comments in source code listing US 8607193 B2 " provides a method for managing and tracking comments in source code but does not provide a method for presenting source code status using visual indication based on social designation.

We describe a method for quick understanding of source code status by presenting visual indication based on social designation.

The business value of the invention is that it saves its users time to identify the status of source code (for example buggy, efficient, critical and etc ) and let them solve bugs more quickly.

In the preferred embodiment while the developer reads, changes or debugs code in an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) the developer could easily and quickly get a quick visual indication what other developers that met that code thought about it by seen which badges they assigned to that code and based on that information the developer could take smarter actions in a shorter time.
