Abstract

The present invention proposes a technique that provides an adapter that allows users to go for any form factor of any standard. . Initially, an adapter is utilized which is designed to integrate a board of small form factor into a bigger chassis. Subsequently, the adapter is placed at the bottom of the chassis sliding through a guide rail and screwed. The guide rail provided on the top of adapter is used to slide the board into the chassis. The board is screwed up at top and bottom and locked further to complete an assembly for utility.

BIGGER THAN BOARD

BACKGROUND

The present invention relates generally to an adapter assembly used in platforms for aerospace and more particularly to a technique for assembling an adapter that allows users to go for any form factor of any standard.

Generally, integration of multiple boards helps to build a system. In order to integrate multiple boards, a particular standard backplane that sits in the chassis is used. Each standard has different form factors. When a particular backplane/chassis is chosen, every board that is used to build a system is required to be in the same form factor. It is obvious that all the required functionality may not be available in that particular form factor. It is always a challenge to select an optimal combination of backplane/chassis and boards.

A conventional technique includes an adapter which is adapted to receive cards designed for a different form factor. The coupling apparatus couples two cards of a first size to fit in to a chassis having slots of second size. The coupling apparatus connects two 3U cards together by clamping the first card and the second card between a first plate and a second plate to effectively form a combined card of a second size. Thus two 3U cards are connected together and inserted into a 6U slot in a 6U chassis.

However, the conventional technique does not support different backplane standards.

It would be desirable to have an efficient technique that finds application in every form factor and allows customization to support different backplane standards.

Figure 1 depicts an adapter designed to integrate a board of small form factor into a bigger chassis.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention proposes a technique that provides an adapter that allows users to go for any form factor of any standard. Initially, an adapter is utilized which is designed to integrate a board of small form factor into a bigger chassis. Figure 1 depicts an adapter designed to integrate a board of small form factor into a bigger chassis.

Subsequently, the adapter is placed at the bottom of the chassis sliding through a guide rail and screwed as depicted in Figure 2.

Figure 3 depicts a guide rail provided on the top of adapter.
