Employing Steganography to Embed Redaction Metadata in Documents

A lot of documents contain sensitive information such as Personal Identifiable Information (PII), other Sensitive Personal Information (SPI), and information that is otherwise of a secret, sensitive or proprietary nature.

There are a lot of cases where those documents that contain sensitive information should be saved in several redacted versions (based on the role of the document editor or viewer) where the sensitive information is not presented and

also saved as is (in its original form) in some content management system.

For example, in an insurance company with a case management system a health statement of a customer should be reviewed, commented and signed by an external doctor, lawyer, actuary and a health insurance department manager. Each one of them gets a redacted version of the statement based on his role and should comment on the document and fax it back to the insurance company to move the case to the next role. It is a time consuming and error prone task to try to map each edited redacted document into the original document case.
