With increase in popularity of social media, an increasingly large part of many users' lives is shared online. Therefore, online calendars need a suitable interface with social networks to enable sharing of calendar information between users.

Disclosed is a method and system for providing an Application Programming Interface (API) between a social network and a calendar either on a cloud or on a Personal Computer (PC) to share availability information of a user on a social network. Here, the

API is provided on the social network and the calendar is linked to the social network.

In a scenario, when a user shares the calendar within a user's network, then information regarding user's availability is also shared with a selected group of members in the user's network. The method and system then derives calendar information from the members even if they use different calendar software. In such a scenario, the calendar information for a member that the user follows resides on a user's calendar. Here, the method and system enables the user's calendar to access the cloud to gather information about the user's calendar. Thereafter, the method and system dynamically updates the calendar information even when the user is performing some other task. In an exemplary scenario, the method and system updates the calendar information when the user is scheduling a meeting. Thereafter, the method and system enables the calendar to fetch availability information of an invitee of the meeting from the invitee's calendar.

The method and system enables the social network to customize access permissions for the members within the social network. In a scenario, the method and system customizes a display of information to the user based on calendar settings of a member participating in an event.
