The disclosure is about a new location based content server system for mobile devices. The mechanism is to leverage location based service to download the content from the mobile devices nearby the request device initiating the request. Nowadays there are many applications on mobile device to allow user to access cloud content service to download the content including documents, images, apps etc.

However, if user is using 3G/4G, or even a slow network to connect to the cloud content server to download file, the data transfer would be slowly. The cloud content server might also be over loaded if there are millions of requests need to be processed. In certain environment, the user would be charged in a lot of expense, such as, if user is traveling to office in another country using roaming service.

The disclosure proposed a mechanism to leverage location based service to download the content from the mobile devices nearby the request device initiating the request. The key is to determine the devices are available to provide download service. It could reduce the cloud content server work load, and also speed up the download progress. It could also save the expense for traveler who is using roaming service.

Overall process

Suppose originally, the content, such as, sales handbook document, exist on a set of mobile devices. The request mobile device would send a content download request to cloud content server for sales handbook . The cloud content server would determine the mobile devices hold this document nearly the request device. Then the cloud content server would send the available download devices list to the request device. The request device can download the content from the available download devices depends on the preferred communication channel. If the download mobile device is not available, or none of available devices are able to be connected, the request device would switch over to download from cloud content server, a confirmation might be required before switching over. The figure-1 explains the overall progress.

When the content server receives the download request, it would look for the mobile devices nearby the request device by location. Then it will determine which device contains the requested content file, this is a typical content server capability to record the device downloaded the file. Depends on a set of factors, the content sever can perform the data mining to generate the list of available download mobile devices.
