ABSTRACT

An automatic conflict reminder/notification system for a web conference is provided to notify/remind attendees who are speaking at the same time. This is a run-time system that include conflict detection, speaker selection and reminder/notification display functions. Audio conflict during online conferences can lead to poor experiences for audio conference users, even if the speakers are waiting some period of time to avoid continual conflict. The solution presented herein can solve this issue and provide an improved user experience.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

In online conferences, people always need speak to each other and certainly audio/speech is the most important feature of an online conference. However, conference members sometimes will meet an embarrassing situation that they speak at the same time. For example, someone may ask a question, and more than one attendee starts to answer the question. The traditional solution is that they all stop speaking and wait one or more seconds to speak again. But obviously this is inefficient for normal communications because time is wasted in waiting and a secondary conflict may occur.

An automatic conflict reminding system is presented herein that solves this problem. The speech conflict attendees can receive a reminder to stop or continue speaking. The attendee that receives the reminder to continue speaking can continue to speak without waiting. This improves the meeting user experience and is an attractive feature for all web conference products/services.

FIG. 1

The automatic reminder system shown in FIG. 1 operates as follows. When some users are speaking at the same time, the conflict detect module on the meeting server can determine who is speaking. With the conflicted user identifier (ID), a speaker selector module can select one user to keep speaking and the other to keep quiet. After the reminder messages are sent to the users who are speaking, the reminder show module will show the message to the user to remind him/her to keep speaking or to be quiet.
