Abstract

The present invention proposes a technique to switch between multiple ultrasound channels to monitor multiple fetuses. The technique includes an analog switch with certain characteristics to switch between multiple ultrasound channels to monitor multiple fetuses. The analog switches are utilized to isolate an ultrasound receiver from an ultrasound transmitter while transmission. The analog switches prevent unwanted transmitted pulses into the receive channel as the analog switches utilizes same channel. The technique is extended to more channels of the ultrasound, which allows multi-fetal monitoring capability for developed monitors.

FIELD OF INVENTION

The invention generally relates to an ultrasound device and more particularly to a technique for switching between multiple ultrasound channels.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Generally, in an ultrasound device, fetal monitor with two or more channels utilizes a switching technique. The switching technique utilizes fast switch over low impedance switching mechanism, such as, a pin diode. High number of devices is utilized for the pin diode technology. For instance, the dual ultrasound channel to monitor twins requires four devices by the pin diode technology. However, pin diode is expensive and is not favored by manufacturer to manufacture other devices.

A conventional technique includes dedicated or non-multiplexed channels, which utilize timing generator circuitry to perform switching of channels in the ultrasound. However, the conventional technique is expensive due to requirement of more components to function and hence more bill of material (BOM).

It would be desirable to have an efficient technique for inexpensive switching of channels with reduced BOM for the ultrasound.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The technique includes an analog switch with certain characteristics for switching between multiple ultrasound channels for monitoring multiple fetuses.
