Disclosed is a method and system for resolving To-Do items based on status of people in contacts that are capable of accomplishing an item on a To-Do list. A

To-Do item is one or more of simple questions, memos, actions, more complicated tasks with priorities, deadlines, expiration time, hierarchies or dependencies. Further, the To-do item is a recorded voice memo and attachments for files, pictures, or other media to be associated with the memo. The contacts are derived from one of email contacts, instant messaging contacts, phone contacts and contact from various social networking groups. The method and system provides an extended ability to consolidate multiple To-Do items for a same contact.

In an embodiment, the method and system enables a user to create the To-Do item and associate the To-Do item with one or more people in a contact list. The method and system sends an alert notification containing the To-Do Item. The alert notification is sent to an owner of the To-Do item or to a receiving person with a permission of the receiving person. Additionally, the method and system notifies expectations from an associated contact when the associated contact performs a status change. Here, user settings are used to define when the alert is issued regarding the status change. An option is provided to the user to customize alert

notifications based on contacts. For example, the user defines an alert notification to be set for contact A as available when contact A logs in a messaging client. For contact B, the alert notifications are set when the contact B logs into a social networking client.
