Quota-

NFC-enabled smartphone. If the user has no such phone, it can revert back to a smartcard type device. A one-time setup application download and account registration is needed on the smartphone before it can communicate with the power socket.

    Once authentication is confirmed, it will load the user's quota or scheme. Intelligent sensors inside the power socket will regulate usage as per the defined quota/scheme for that particular user so that the user only uses the allocated amount. For example, quotas can be regulated by a per month/total kWh basis.

    When the session ends, the user needs to end the session by unplugging the socket or, optionally, using the smartphone to communicate and end the session via the application. The figure below shows the steps and flow of using the quota-based power socket.

1) Server in the cloud keeps the most current NFC application as well as able to provide user services. It is also able to provide billing and keeps the user profile.

2) The user's smartphone communicates downloads the application. The profile is generated by the server and signed before it is sent to the mobile device.
