Method to enhance the experience of linking applications

Online social networks are a universal mechanism to connect people and information in logical and organized ways, which enable sharing and processing of

information between the members. The most common mechanisms of sharing and processing information through online social networks are the wall, activity stream, timeline, or access to profiles. These mechanisms enable a user to rapidly share and gather information through the networks. With the rise of mobile devices and loosely coupled applications, information sharing is accelerating at a rapid rate.

One common problem with the new information sharing is the bookmark. A user on

one device may send, copy, or embed the bookmark with the intent of sharing the original experience, where the bookmark is created is launched or shared. However, the receiving device or context might not produce the desired experience because it does not correctly access or open the bookmark.

Example of the Problem: Activity Stream

1. User A is a mobile user of the activity stream application 2. User A opens a message 3. User A clicks the button to share a link to the message 4. User A sends the message to User B 5. User B is on the desktop of the computer 6. User B is unable to launch the link, as it is specific to the mobile device experience 7. The experience is lost, and User B needs to communicate with User A to synchronize

Example of the Problem: Email

1. User A is a mobile user of the email application 2. User A opens a message 3. User A bookmarks the message 4. User A's bookmarks are synchronized to other devices 5. User A launches the bookmark and finds that the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for the bookmark is not found
6. User A has a negative user experience

A method is needed to enhance the bookmark use/experience.

The solution is a method and system to enhance the user experience with linked applications. The method analyzes a message for a bookmarked/linked experience, determines the user's current context, and then selects a preferred context to ensure a positive linked experience. The system may further update links with the synchronization service. It can also provide actions when the bo...
