Abstract

Disclosed is a method and a system which adopts a new technology, tactile texture based recognition, which uses the principle of attraction between electrical charges has surfaced in the market. This technology allows users to feel and touch different type of surface texture despite a flat screen. To use the tactile texture based recognition technology and the camera is integrated on the system, The new GPS navigation system can display the map with different tactile senses. The street objects on the routes and directions can be identified through the camera, all of the obstacles or paths will also be displayed on the device with different tactile senses. Blind or visually impaired can be guided by touching and feeling them on the system.

    The current GPS(Global Positioning System) navigation system is mostly visual and audio based, It guides users with route calculation and direction displayed in a human readable format via text or in a graphic vector based map. The audio played in the background assists in directing users on the right way.

    For the blind or visually impaired people, they usually use a navigation system with the same vector based map and mostly depend on the feedback through audio or vibration. However, it's hard to hear the direction clearly if there is a noise in the background. Also the vibration can just provide limited notification. The approach has been said to worsen accessibility for other forms or disability.

    The blind navigation system should provide a different way to return more informative and user- friendly result.

And the source map should be improved and more helpful for blind, rather than being just a picture in the background.

    The current GPS navigation system is not useful and use friendly for the blind or visually impaired:

1. The current GPS navigation system is mostly visual and audio based.

    2. The audio and vibration version are developed to assist the blind or visually impaired.

    The disclosure comes up with a new GPS navigation system that: 1. Integrate tactile texture based recognition technology into GPS map on touch screen 2. Integrate camera or other devices like Google Glass into the system to identify any object on street
