Disclosed is a gesture-based approach for initiating live application (app) migration across mobile devices. The novel idea is to "liquefy" a running app such that it appears as if fluid is trapped in the mobile screen, and when the device is tilted, the app from one device "pours" into the app of a second device.

Live migration of mobile applications (app) allows a running app from one mobile device to be move to another mobile device. The live migration of running applications has many enterprise uses, most of which are centered on improving workforce productivity and engagement.

However, initiating migration is menu-driven. Because the moving the application takes several seconds, the "dead" time is generally undesirable, error prone (especially if the application state needs to be persisted back and forth to a cloud backend ), and not non-mobile friendly.

An improved gesture-based approach that leverages different mobile censors is preferred. A new way of initiating live migration across mobile devices is needed

The novel idea is to " liquefy" a running app such that it appears as if fluid is trapped in the mobile screen. The novel system provides an interface for liquefying applications such that the application appears as being trapped inside the boundaries of the phone . The interface pairs two mobile devices that support live application migration and triggers the migration. In addition, a spatial interface captures the migration progress.

Tilting the screen creates ripples that mimic fluid movement . When the target migration capable device is under the source device with the liquefied app , the target screen automatically changes such that it can accept the liquefied app . The...
