Abstract

● Change list from „whitelist“ to „blacklist“ in DFMD ● Add a 4 Byte field (i.e. After secondary controlling FCF) containing flags. One bit switches mode from white list to black list. In case a blacklist is configured each FCDF is allowed to join the fabric excluding the mentioned ones. ● Empty list and bit set is invalid and the blacklist mode should be ignored ● Exclusion has to be reported to sys admin ● Once the problem is solved, admin could remove the FDF from the blacklist.

Method to exclude an FDF from a distributed cFCF

Problem statement

● A distributed switch consists of a controlling FCF and one or multiple FDFs

● CFCF sent a DFMD message to FDFs to configure which FDFs are part of the distributed switch.

● One special configuration is an empty list of allowed FDFs, which means that every FDF is allowed

● If a new FDF appears and is configured to be part of the fabric, each directly connected FDF establishes a so called VA-connection

● All FDFs report this connection(s) to cFCF.

● At some point in time cFCF could detect problems with an FDF and could decide to remove it from the fabric.

● In a whitelist mode the FDFs would re-establish the connection right away.

● There is no way for cFCF to exclude it permanently from the fabric

● This would end up in a never-ending loop

Yellow FDF is incompatible (e.g. different firmware version)

The cFCF may come to the conclusion that it would be best for the fabric to exclude

FDF5 from the fabric till the issue is solved by admin (e.g. firmware update)

Currently if "Number of FCDFs" is set to 0, cFCF is not able to do so.

Solution

● Add a 4 Byte field (i.e. After secondary controlling FCF) containing flags. One bit switches mode from white list to black list. In case a blacklist is configured each FCDF is allowed to join the fabric excluding the mentioned ones.
