Method and System of Automatically Creating Online Communities based on Collaboration Artifacts

Currently with an increase in number of ways to collaborate, there exist abundant communities and places to store collaboration artifacts. In each community, number of people collaborating may vary from less than 10 to more than 600. There are certain nuances to each community, but, there are clear duplicates as well. Hence, there exists a requirement of method and system which enhances ability of a user to find and engage with appropriate communities.

Disclosed is a method and system for automatically creating online communities based on collaboration artifacts. The creation of communities is optimized, where

the collaboration artifacts are analyzed, key terms and collaborators are extracted. Thereafter, frequencies of associations between terms and collaborators are compared against a threshold, and communities are automatically created.

Consider a scenario, where collaborative platforms A, B, C provide file services, blog service and mail services respectively. The collaborative platform C could be any artifact generating collaborative platform such as, dogear, wiki, files and activity streams. User X and user Y may be members of the collaborative platforms. User X upload a File 1 to the collaborative platform A and user Y creates a blog entry 2 in the collaborative platform B.
