A new X-ray tube angle detector based on accelerometer sensor

Abstract: This article proposes a new X-ray tube angle detector based on accelerometer sensor, which enables accurate, wide-range detection of the orientation of the tube with low cost. The detected angle can be provided to various component of the X-ray system for further using. For example, the detected angle can be presented to the user via suitable user interface in real time, can be used in various clinical applications, and/or can be used for X-ray exposure limitation.

In X-ray systems, the tube angle is very important information. For example, it can help clinical technicians to determine the X-Ray direction, when they operate the X-ray system. For another example, it is also a very important factor for system to judge whether the exposure can be executed or not.

In conventional X-ray systems, a mechanical angle meter with lower precision is used for tube angle indication, as illustrated in Fig. 1. Additionally, 3 photo sensors may be installed for detection of 0°, 90°, and -90°positions. That means only a tube angle of 0°, 90°, or -90° can be detected and sent to system.

This article proposes a new X-ray tube angle detector based on accelerometer sensor. The proposed tube angle detector can provide more precise tube angle information. It can not only improve the customer experience, but also improve the safety of the X-ray system. In an example, the detected tube angle can be presented to the user via suitable user interface such as a display. In another example, the detected tube angle can be sent to various component of
