A Method and System for Annotating and Editing an Image before Capturing the Image

Existing image capturing tools require a user to manually adjust a camera to set up filters before taking images. Once the images are captured, the user is required to use a mobile or a desktop application for editing the images which is a very time consuming process.

Disclosed is a method and system for annotating and editing an image before capturing the image. The method and system scans for nudging signals (e.g., hand gestures or speech) before the images are taken to interpret the signal and identify a control command based on the interpreted signal. Further, the method and system executes the command, and confirms execution of the command to provide a feedback to the user.

In one implementation, the system includes an image capturing tool, a gesture recognition module and a library of algorithms for real-time image manipulation. The image capturing tool enables a user to capture an image using one or , but not limited to, a camera, a smartphone, smart glasses, a smart watch or a tablet. The gesture recognition module is used to recognize a hand gesture of the user . Functions of the library of algorithms include one or more of, but not limited to, altering brightness, altering color and removing blemishes before taking images. For example, a user in front of the camera can point at a blemish on the face and input a voice command to remove the blemish from the shot. The gesture or speech based image editing for the image or video acquisition is performed by any one of the image capturing tool such as a camera, a smartphone, smart glasses, a smart watch or a tablet.

The gesture recognition module is an image or video processing module which constantly monitors the input from the image or video acquisition module . The gesture is recognized based on a stored set of pre-defined hand gestures. Alternatively, a user can record a unique gesture signature and add the unique gesture signature to the set of pre-defined hand gestures. The set of pre-defined hand gestures can be localized based on culture norms. For example, the hand gesture associated with number 9 in Chinese is not a recognized American gesture. The method and system interprets the detected gesture and associates an action to the detected gesture . The set of actions can be configured based on a default set of actions associated to a set of gestures . The set of gestures can be interpreted based on the cultural norms and the meanings associated with particular gestures. For example, a thumbs up is considered an offensive hand gesture in some cultures.

The system also includes a frame editing module to identify focus points, filters, zoom levels, templates and masks. The frame editing module is used to edit the frame and the editing includes one or more of, but not limited to, in-the-frame touch-ups, color or brightness adjustment, smoothing out, softening, and sharpening certain areas...
