Method and System for Building a Unified Call-Home And / Or Error Log Analysis Tool

Many elements in a data center are interrelated with one another. Presently, analysis of call-home data is done in isolation and as such bigger picture of whole environment is lost. Sometimes, interdependency is rather obvious when modules in racks report higher than expected temperature. However, there are more subtle cases where faults timeline is not clear and not so obvious. Therefore, an overall analysis of assortment of call-home data assists in identifying a problem in the datacenter in a timely and effective manner by analyzing root cause of the problem.

Disclosed is a method and system for building a unified call-home and/or error log analysis tool that understands different call-homes and timeline of the call-homes. The method and system is built gradually starting with assortment of devices inside a company and thereafter other vendor devices are prioritized as per market requirements. Figure 1 illustrates an implementation of the method and system.

As illustrated above, an IT system includes storage, server, switches, software components, virtualization layers in a data center and provides call home / communication with a central server application using technologies such as, but not limited to email, Virtual Private Networks (VPN). The IT system transfers information such as system identification, heart-beat and error log information triggered by events detected by the IT system to the central server. The central
