Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and system for torque control in a powertrain of a vehicle, said drive train comprising an engine, a controllable clutch arrangement and transmission arrangement, wherein said clutch arrangement is controlled such that the torque transferred by said clutch arrangement is limited to a predetermined level so as to slip out torque peaks appearing at an engine break-down. Said break-down may be expected or unexpected. At such an engine break-down high torque peaks due to e.g. torsional forces are appearing in said powertrain. The control of the clutch arrangement comprises positioning of the clutch arrangement to a position corresponding to a possible torque transfer, said position being between a fully closed and fully opened position of said clutch arrangement. The clutch arrangement position providing a torque transfer limited to a predetermined level so as to slip out torque peaks appearing at an engine break-down is especially desirable when said engine break-down appears when it is in an upward slope which would cause the vehicle to roll backwards if the clutch arrangement is controlled to a fully opened state.

BACKGROUND ART

If the engine of a vehicle such as a truck breaks down, i.e. is stalled, when the vehicle is in an upward slope and the clutch of the powertrain of the vehicle is fully opened, this would cause the vehicle to roll backwards. Closing the clutch would hereby prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards.

WO2009074473 discloses a method for controlling an automated clutch of a transmission when an internal combustion engine is stalled/breaks down. After detecting the engine stall or when the internal combustion engine is stalled, the automated clutch is held closed.

By thus closing the clutch at such an engine break-down torque peaks due to e.g. torsional forces are appearing in the powertrain. Such torque peaks may damage the powertrain, e.g. the transmission of the drive train.

TECHNICAL SOLUTION

Vehicles may be equipped with powertrains with controllable clutch arrangements. Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) transmissions for example may have an automated clutch arrangement, the clutch arrangement thus being controllable. The invention relates to a method and system for torque control in a powertrain of a vehicle with such a controllable clutch arrangement. The invention is applicable to any vehicle with a controllable clutch arrangement including vehicles with clutch pedal.

Fig. 1 schematically illustrates a powertrain 10 for a vehicle. The powertrain 10 comprises an engine 12, e.g. an internal combustion engine, a transmission arrangement 14, and a controllable clutch arrangement 16.
