Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for summarizing and reading out one or more email messages on a mobile device.  The method and system utilizes one or more text-to-speech converters for reading out a summary of the one or more email messages on the mobile device. 

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for summarizing and reading out one or more email messages on a mobile device. 

In an embodiment, the method and system enables a user to initiate generating a summary of the one or more email messages by using techniques such as, but not limited to, by pressing a button on the mobile device, selecting from a drop-down menu and through voice commands via mobile interfaces.  The method and system also enables the user to specify generation of a summary for the one or more email messages based on user preferences for an email client. 

Once the generation of the summary of the one or more email messages is initiated, the method and system encrypts and sends the one or more email messages to a server running a web-service.  At the server, the method and system extracts original contents from the one or more email messages using a rule set.  The rule set can be constructed using the user’s email history and the rule set excludes one or more forwarded/replied-to email messages during subsequent processing of the one or more email messages.  The method and system, then, constructs a weighted graph using different constituent sentences of the extracted original contents of the one or more email messages as nodes and pair-wise linguistic/statistical similarities between the constituent sentences of the extracted original contents as edge weights. 

After constructing the weighted graph, the method and system sets individual node weights as one and additional weights can be assigned to the nodes which correspond to the sentences of the one or more email messages that are at the beginning.  The method and system, then, highlights different paragraphs of the one or more email messages using bold font.  Thereafter, the method and system uses a random-walk algorithm for identifying most important sentences of the one or more email messages.
