Preventing Vehicle Theft In A Parking Area

Disclosed is a method and system for preventing vehicle theft in a parking area. The method and system predicts and alerts against suspected for vehicle theft. The prediction is performed by tracking both the vehicle parking status and a driver/passenger location status during the existence of a vehicle such as a car in the parking area. When the system detects a departure of a vehicle from the parking area, the system links it with the car driver/passenger location to determine whether to transmit the alert or not. If the system finds that the car driver/passenger is in the same zone of the parking area, then the system does not transmit any alert. If the system finds that the driver is not in the zone of the parking area, then the system transmits the alert for possible theft.

Figure 1 illustrates a schematic for the disclosed system for preventing vehicle theft.

As illustrated, Vehicle Recognition Unit 101 is used to determine information about a vehicle entering a parking area. The information can be a license plate number, a color, or the like. Vehicle information is collected by a capturing means. The capturing

means can capture a picture of the vehicle and the license plate to obtain the vehicle license number. The collected information is transmitted to an Information Processing and Communication Management Unit (IPCMU) 110 to define a category of the vehicle. The category of the vehicle can be defined based on parameters such as, but not limited to, the number of visits of a vehicle to the parking area and payment history associated with a vehicle user. Accordingly, a user can be classified as a) pre-paid/pre-registered/pre-authorized user of the parking spaces, b) frequent user of this parking space, or c) a normal user who is visiting the parking space for the first

time.

Vehicle information and vehicle category are stored on storage managed by IPCMU 110. Further, a probability model can be created to identify that the vehicle is of category 'a' or 'b' by using a statistical model built using previous visits in/out data available and stored in simplest form. The probability of the vehicle belonging to the categories is calculated based on one or more parameters such as, but not limited to, arrival time X of the vehicle, passengers group A and leave time Y. For vehicles in category c, more data needs to be aggregated to build a model. The model can be built using Passengers/Vehicle Information Modeling Unit 107 on receiving a required amount of data from future visits. Also, the daily /monthly /yearly captured data of the visiting vehicles can be used by Passengers/Vehicle Information Modeling Unit 107 to build a garage model.
