Problem Addressed 

Generic user interfaces include touch screens on which the user makes selections and performs operations via touching the screen with a finger or a device such as a stylus.  As these interfaces are increasingly commonplace, a new interactive human-machine interface is required to attract new system users. The solution also provides opportunity to control the dispenser at multiple levels convenient to the user.

Description (Components, Process)

The system utilizes a tactile rotary dial controlled by a receptacle (i.e. beverage cup).  The user physically rotates the dial by rotating the receptacle, which is in sufficient contact to move the rotary dial.  The dial and receptacle can be interlocked or the dial can have high-friction surface that grips the receptacle.
