Abstract

Disclosed is a method to allow web users to manage web-base personal data efficiently. The web-base personal data could be protected and reused in different device as user’s preference. A tracking and managing mechanism for web-base applications is proposed to solve the problem. The mechanism monitors the all activities launched by web applications since users start to use them in a device system and then keeps them in records. The activities are related to accessing or creating personal data, they could be history of site browsing, web pages cached, bookmark added, file downloaded or sign-in of web sites. Those data changes are kept in tracking records, which could provide adequate information for managing. User could manage the personal data saved in browser and system by taking advantage of the tracking record.

A mechanism to manage web-based personal data

    Web users tend to surf internet via different device due to movement to different location. The internet surfing probably includes log in web service sites, online media accessing and download files. Each access would create web-relative data and keep the data in the device which is used to surf internet. The most of time people use their personal device to access internet and keep the access history and log on credential in the private device. However, there are some unavoidable situations that they have to use others' devices or even to lend out their personal device to others. In those cases, the login credential or the internet surfing history would be exposed to others. It implies that the private data are under the danger of being leaked out.

    There are known solutions provided by browsers. Users could manually configure their browser to prevent the personal data from keeping in the device after web surfing, such as cleaning URL history or disabling browsing cache. For the files downloaded during the web-surfing, user could manually delete them from a device. Even though, it is not easy for a user to do these steps always. It is also makes users to be in a dilemma of preventing data leakage and reusing data for next time.

This invention addresses a solution to this problem. It provides a method to allow web users to manage web-base personal data efficiently. The web-base personal data could be protected and reused in different device as user's preference.

    The web-data manager figure1-[3] monitors the all data accessing activities which are launched by web applications since users start to use them in a device system (shown as figure1-[1]). The activities monitored are kept in tracking records by per web site visiting or certain time period (shown as figure1-[2]). Those tracking records could provide adequate information to web-data manager for later management of web-related personal data in the device system.
