Abstract

The present invention relates to an adjustment device which is used to adjust the select lever of a manual shifter assembly with respect to a biasing device such that the select lever is urged by the biasing means exactly to its neutral position.

The present invention relates to an adjustment device which
is used to adjust the select lever of a manual shifter
assembly with respect to a biasing device such that the
select lever is urged by the biasing means exactly to its
neutral position.

To describe the background prior art we first refer to the
views shown below which show the interior of a pink housing
which forms a console from which the gear shifter of a
manual transmission extends.

In the view on the right hand side only the lower end
portion of the gear shifter is visible which extends into
the housing. The gear shifter is coupled by a finger, which
extends perpendicularly therefrom at its lower end, to a
select lever. Select movements of the gear shifter are
transferred by the finger to the select lever which is
thereby caused to pivot (to the left or right in the view
on the right hand side). To bias the select lever to its
neutral position a coil spring is used which is placed
around a shaft, e.g. around the shaft about which the
select lever pivots. The coil spring has to end portions
extending as spring arms therefrom. The spring arms engage

a pin (yellow) attached to the select lever. In order to
prevent that the coil spring is pivoting together with the
select lever when the latter pivots, some kind of stopper
means is needed. In this prior art an adjustment plate
(green) is used which is fixed to the inside of the housing
and which extends with one end portion into the gap between
the two spring arms. When the select lever pivots, one of
the spring arms follows the movement of the select lever
while the opposite spring arm is hold back by the
adjustment plate. In order to allow to position the
adjustment plate in such a manner that the coil spring is
urging the select lever to exactly the neutral position
thereof, the adjustment plate is attached to the housing by
a screw (yellow) which is received in an oblong hole in the
adjustment plate such that the adjustment plate can be
moved to a certain extend (to the left or right hand side
in the view on the right hand side) before the screw is
tightened to fix the position of the adjustment plate in
the adjusted position.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a
simpler adjustment means which is simper to manufacture and
easier to mount then the above described adjustment plate.
