Method and System for Assessing Employee Skills and Accomplishments by Analyzing Electronics Communications

Disclosed is a method and system for assessing skills and accomplishments of one or more employees by analyzing electronics communications of the one or more employees. The electronics communications include, but need not be limited to, outbound email, instant messaging (IM), text messaging, calendar data, and other work-related social media messages. The method and system provides a passive assessment of the performance of the one or more employees via text mining of the electronics communications of the one or more employees rather than requiring the one or more employees to repeatedly enter performance data for assessment.

In an embodiment, the method and system utilizes a skills and accomplishments tracking database as well as a non-structured data analytics engine with one or more scoring algorithms for processing the electronics communications generated by the one or more employees. The one or more employees record areas that need to be tracked and objectives for a timeframe at the beginning of each skills assessment period. The method and system, then, starts scanning the electronic communications by the one or more employees to search for evidence of skills being demonstrated or other accomplishments being achieved by the one or more employees. The scanning occurs on a frequent basis to ensure timely assessment of skills.

The method and system, then, utilizes the non-structured data analytics engine for processing each message and parsing the data to identify cases where the one or more employees demonstrate a skill or accomplishes an objective. Consider a scenario where an employee receives an email from a colleague asking for information about a workplace analytics optimization offering and the employee responds to the colleague with text explaining the offering along with an attachment providing details about the offering. In accordance the scenario, the method and system parses the email and identifies the request for information from the colleague. The method and system, then, sees the response from the employee and logs the response as a demonstration of a skill in terms of showing an understanding of the workplace analytics optimization offering. If a colleague asked for the employee to present to a client about the offering, the method and system sees the email request as well as the calendar invites to log the skill demonstration and accomplishment.

Consider another scenario where an employee answers questions from a colleague about how to execute a certain business process via instant messaging and gets credit for possessing the skill. In accordance with the scenario, the method and system looks for communications about customers agreeing to sign new deals or other keywords that demonstrate that the employee was able to make a certain activity occur through his or her efforts.
