Abstract

Multi-mode telemetry and power system for electric down-hole tools traditionally run on electric wireline. A scalable, multi-mode system comprising of both telemetry and power generating and/or converting modules to operate, control and communicate with electric down-hole tools, making use of both conventional and unconventional deployment systems. Telemetry: Means of converting the internal tool bus signals to a bi-directional signal/communications protocol that can transmit date over long distance. The telemetry system can operate in the following modes: Surface Read Out (SRO), Single conductor electric wireline, Multi conductor electric wireline, Wired Pipe, Slickline, Coaxial cable, Twisted pair cable, Fiber optic cable, Combination Cable (combination of Operations/Production any from the above), Memory Hybrid (combination of SRO and Memory), Interlaced (combination of SRO and Memory). Wireless Power Modes: Means of supplying electric power to the telemetry system and all sensors/instruments attached to the telemetry system. The power Supply can operate in the following modes: Surface powered, Variable Voltage, Low voltage, High Voltage, Battery powered , Lithium batteries , Alkaline batteries, Dry cell batteries, Uninterruptible power supply, which consist of a combination of surface and/or down hole generated power combined with battery back-up, Wet cell batteries, Molten salt batteries, Down Hole Power Generator powered , Fluid flow turbine driven generator.
