Abstract

The present invention relates to a component compartment for a vehicle, in which the component compartment is coupled to a vehicle cab during normal driving. When the cab is tilted, e.g. during service, the component compartment is decoupled from the cab while the compartment retains its upright position. The component compartment might be used for storing e.g. electrical components and other components such as cables.

COMPONENT COMPARTMENT FOR A VEHICLE

The present invention relates to a component compartment for a vehicle, in which the component compartment is coupled to a vehicle cab. In particular, the present invention relates to a component compartment which is decoupled from the vehicle cab when the cab is in a tilted position while the compartment retains its upright

position.

It is well known that there is a lack of space both within the cab but also in the vehicle chassis. Components, such as electric control units, are exposed to high vibration levels and varying temperature levels which contributes to shortened life time of said components. Some components are located where they are exposed to high

temperatures and therefore an alternative location for these components on the vehicle needs to be found. The number of components and number of cables are also increasing, which is space consuming.

However, today the storage space is limited by several factors, e.g. space limitations and vehicle length. Therefore, there is a need for one or several component

compartments that provide for both a secure and/or weatherproof manner. The compartment may be located rear of the cab, e.g. integrated in the side air deflectors. The compartment may be located in other suitable ways behind the cab. The vehicle might be a truck or any other suitable vehicle.

A component compartment might be used for storing e.g. electrical components and

other components such as cables. The more storage room on a vehicle the better since different components need to be stored in both a secure and/or weatherproof manner.

During normal driving the compartment is coupled to the cab. In this way, the vibration level is minimised and the excessive ventilation from the cab may be used

to heat the compartment. The location also results in better protection against chemicals and dirt and also facilitates for a service technician during service.
