Abstract

The present invention proposes a technique to compress captured video data by translating the video data to local coordinate based blob data. A camera is used to detect locations of vehicles and that location is transmitted to a central cloud based system for further processing. Camera collects all data in a local coordinate system. Data is compressed to a simple bit of 1s and 0s which indicates if a portion of detected vehicle is seen at that coordinate point. The cloud system provides direct mapping of several points in local coordinate view to a physical location. The cloud system reconstructs location of vehicle by combining data acquired from direct mapping of points with bitmaps acquired from the camera.

TECHNIQUE TO CAPTURE VIDEO DATA COMPRESSION

BACKGROUND

The present invention relates generally to vehicle parking detection system and more particularly to a technique to compress captured video data for parking detection using cameras and cloud based system.

Generally, cameras are used to detect location of vehicles in parking area. The location of vehicles is transmitted to a central cloud based system for further processing. The cloud based system includes several thousands of cameras with limited bandwidth in terms of cost that avoids sending constant stream of images from camera to cloud.

Further, sending large amounts of video or image data across number of cameras that rely on cellular connectivity on a 24x7 basis is quite expensive. However, in order that the cameras locally perform translation of global coordinates or actual physical global positioning system (GPS) locations, it is required to know about provisioning of cameras for knowing locations of the cameras.

It would be desirable to have an efficient technique to compress captured video data and avoids sending non useful information to the server.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention proposes a technique to compress captured video data by translating the video data to local coordinate based blob data. A camera is used to detect locations of vehicles and the location is transmitted to a central cloud based system for further processing. The cloud system is primarily interested in acquiring information about existence of a car exists and its location. As a result, the invention sends only location data in a compressed manner for what camera sees as a potential vehicle.
