Abstract

Disclosed is system that recognizes a user’s writing behavior patterns (i.e. word selection, tone) when communicating with one type of recipient and compares that to writing behaviors recognized in communications with other types of recipients or groups of recipients. If the system determines that the user (i.e. writer) is loosely posting a response to a group forum or message, which contains another user who usually receives proper formal communication, then system alerts the writer.

System to Manage Access for Posts Based on Likely Recipients

When submitting posts or sending emails, uses alter word selection and tone based on the recipient (e.g., friend, relative, co-worker, client, etc.). A user writes in an informal

tome for friends, and in a more professional manner for business connections. There are many ways to measure the level of formality in communications and the quality/behavior of wording used.

To assist users in creating appropriate responses to a group message or forum post, a system is needed that can review the list of recipients and alert the user if the content is inappropriate for any of the readers.

The novel contribution is a system that monitors the writing behavior (i.e. word

selection, tone) of a user when communicating with one user, and then compares it to how that user behaves against others. The system monitors communications across various applications. The core idea is implementation by modelling; the system recognizes the user's behavior patterns when communicating with one group of people and compares that to behaviors recognized in communications with other groups. If the system determines that the user (i.e. writer) is loosely posting a response to a group forum, which contains another user who usually receives proper formal communication, then system alerts the writer. The system can also automatically set who can see the different comments/likes.

The system can be enabled on any communication server. Over time, the system monitors the formality of communications between all users. The system monitors how the communications start, if there are any informal words, and the level of informality/formality between all recipients. The system logs this information over time. The system uses this logged data to compare how a user behaves with other users.

For example, the system determines that User A speaks very openly with User B, but

when talking to User C there is a level of authority in the communication and the tone is

very strict and formal. Thus, when User A is writing a group post that includes both

User B and User C, the system determines the level of formality with which to address all recipients. I...
