During the development of software, an explanation or description of what that source code does must be included . Comments left in the source code do not usually contain enough detail to allow another developer sharing the project (or the same developer later) to understand the meaning.

The novel contribution is a plug-in for an integrated development environment (IDE) that allows developers to insert comments, text, and multimedia into the source code that can be exported and imported into another IDE project . The novel plug-in targets a specific user for the source content using a lexical and dependency graph analyzer focused on the annotations , and then identifies and selects the best additional content to give to the user. This process reduces the initial content size and amount of relevant data based on how the user has interacted and is likely to interact with the source.

The core idea of this solution is to export code annotations with the source by specifying a target user or consumer group and providing an appropriate export of the metadata and additional information . The system first finds by user name or group the components and source developed and touched by the user. It then performs a lexical analysis of both sources with a dependency graph and call hierarchy and only pulls the system or line based annotations that are accessed and the general class level annotations.
