Enabling Text Initiated Calling Sequences

When an application of a mobile device indicates a voice call over a Long Term Evolution (LTE) / Fourth Generation (4G) network and a called person on the same transport network is unavailable, a return call is received using the mobile device's native phone capabilities. Because of existing billing methods used by carriers, the return call is charged additionally - a charge that otherwise could have been avoided (especially a challenge for international calling).

Disclosed is a method and system for enabling a call originator to send text messages requesting a callback to a target device in this situation, thereby avoiding additional phone call charges and enabling return calls. The method and system notifies the call originator of whether the target device has chosen to either initiate the call back or delay the callback. The method and system enables the target device to initiate the callback to the call originator via techniques such as, but not limited to, one or more free service mobile apps that operate over 4G/LTE networks and/or a Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) that does not charge for outbound calls.
