Abstract

In contemporary wireless communication systems, Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) detection has draw lots of attention in many standards such as IEEE 802.11n(WiFi), IEEE 802.16e, IEEE 802.16m and the long term evolution (LTE). Soft detection has been widely used combined with Turbo decoder which will make significant contribute to the performance at the receiver side. However, soft detection usually consume much more computational complexity than hard detection. Therefore we need to find an easier way to get the soft detection result at a much lower cost. A simple way to convert the hard detection output to soft symbol output is proposed.

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

In contemporary wireless communication systems, Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) detection has draw lots of attention in many standards such as IEEE 802.11n(WiFi), IEEE 802.16e, IEEE 802.16m and the long term evolution (LTE).

Soft detection has been widely used combined with Turbo decoder which will make significant contribute to the performance at the receiver side. However, soft detection usually consume much more computational complexity than hard detection. Therefore we need to find an easier way to get the soft detection result at a much lower cost.

A simple way to convert the hard detection output to soft symbol output is proposed.

First get the hard symbol output [s1; s2; s3; s4] using our improved algorithm. Second, for each symbol in [s1; s2; s3; s4], we using zero forcing to generate the final soft symbol output [s1_zf; s2_zf; s3_zf; s4_zf] use the following method.

For each symbol, move all the other symbols to the left of the equation y=Hs (where y is the received symbol vector, H is the channel matrix and s is the transmitted symbol vector.).For example, to get s1_zf, move s2, s3 and s4 from the hard output to the left. Then apply zero forcing to s1 to get the zero forcing solution.
