A Method and System for Managing the Relevance of Correspondences

Most often a realm of conversations happens in an online social network. Once a new conversation topic or thread is started there is an initial flurry of conversations. The conversation narrows down depending on the context of the conversation. There is difficulty in determining the point at which additional conversation occurs or the point at

which the context of the conversation changes. The additional irrelevant conversation occurs more often than at random time or depending on certain time. Consider a scenario where birthday of "User A" is on May 1st. For the next seven days, "User A" receives Happy Birthday wishes through posts on an online social network. Three

weeks later, "User B" wishes "User A" and three months later, "User A" wishes "User A" for Birthday. The contribution that "User B" makes to the conversation may be relevant, while the contribution that "User C" makes to the conversation is clearly no

longer relevant.

Disclosed is a method and system for managing the relevance of correspondences. The method and system automatically applies rules to the correspondences, wherein

the applied rules automatically changes based on changes in the correspondences.

The method and system manages the visibility of correspondences by determining the type of correspondences. The method and system selects the rules of correspondences for the type of correspondences and manages the relevance of conversation. The correspondences can be one or more of, but not limited to, conversations, messages, discussions threads, posts, comments, replies and/or questions. Thereafter, rule based actions are derived from types of correspondences and automatically the rule based actions are applied to the new correspondence on receiving a new correspondence.

The method and system extracts the conversation elements and checks the conversation classifier which applies analytic analysis using natural language processing (NLP) to determine the type of conversation. The conversation classifier maps a conversation or a subject of the conversation to a conversation rule set. The conversation rule set is then applied to the subsequent posts of the conversation. The rules can be one or more of, but not limited, monitoring change in the state of conversations, applying conditions or criteria to the conversations and deriving rule based actions. For example, the rules for monitoring the state of conversation can be number of likes to a post, total number of responses or lack of responses to the post, total amount of time since the last post, elapsed time for the post, responses from different types of users such as roles of users, relevant users, trusted participants and/or experts. The rule of applying conditions or criteria to the conversation can be to stop a user from posting if the post is older and time elapsed for the post, if the type of user is not a trusted participant or relevant user...
