Prior art has identified a use-case where the map provider operates a real time auction to route a specific user past a point-of-interest to increase revenue. While the prior art is sufficient for a single user, this invention considers the passengers in the car and their context (age, demographic information, relationships, current phone usage, position in car, etc) when creating the auction and determining the route.

Disclosed is a device for allowing a map provider to generate and conduct an auction to provide directions near a point-of-interest for a set of users within an automobile. Many applications provide directions to users. Prior art [*] has identified a use-case where the map provider operates a real time auction to route a specific user past a point-of-interest to increase revenue. While the prior art is sufficient for a single user, this invention considers all the passengers in the car and their context (age, demographic information, relationships, current phone usage, position in car, etc) when creating the auction and determining the route. In the current invention, information about the other passengers in the vehicle is gathered and included in the request for directions. The map provider uses all or part of this information to create a real-time auction to select a route near a 3rd party point-of-interest. The 3rd party will bid to the map provider to route this vehicle near an intended point. Other mechanisms to monetize the directions besides an auction, like long-standing contracts based on certain policies, can also be used. In addition to information about the passengers, information about the vehicle can also be included in the request.
