Customization of text messaging using receiver personality type and affective state to improve acceptance

Disclosed is a method for customization of text messaging using receiver personality type and affective state to improve acceptance.

The disclosed method determines the personality type of the receiver in a text message or chat conversation. The system then monitors the sender's outgoing message and translates that text message into a vocabulary known to be associated with that personality type. The method is expected to improve the comprehension and acceptance of the transmitted text or chat message.

It is a well known fact that short text conversations, chat conversations, emails, text remote support interfaces, etc., sometimes fall short of achieving the kind of rich communication offered by face to face discussions. Sometimes this causes frustration or anger and mis-communication between both parties. This ineffective communication may be caused by a mismatch between sender and receiver affective states. The root cause may be due to different personality types, vocabulary, conversational style , etc. The disclosed method addresses this by monitoring outgoing text streams and translating the outgoing text stream into a form more palatable and understandable to the receiver based on the receiver's personality type.

Figure 1 depicts an example flow of the method with the following steps:

Non found words don't affect personality score.

Many textual messages are sent via service/sales/polling entities that have repetitive lists of receivers that can have similarities (geography, political affiliation, affluence, ...) In many cases these receivers can also have similar personality types. For these cases, variations may be used, for example, the following updates can be optionally used to adjust the personality determination especially when not enough text artifacts exist to make a good determination alone.
