Abstract

In an effort to get greater efficiency in the conversion of natural gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG), it is important to retrieve colder water from deeper water depths. Therefore, seawater intake hoses are becoming longer. The increase in length can lead to an increase in the likelihood of clashing between adjacent hoses. Seawater intake hoses are quite flexible and can move significantly with the motion of the vessel. In an effort avoid clashing, the ‘ROV Operated Hinged Hose Connector’ connects the hoses together so that they cannot impact each other.

Abstract

Therefore, seawater intake hoses are becoming longer. The increase in length can lead to an increase in the likelihood of clashing between adjacent hoses. Seawater intake hoses are quite flexible and can move significantly with the motion of the vessel.

In an effort avoid clashing, the 'ROV Operated Hinged Hose Connector' connects the hoses together so that they cannot impact each other.

Main Body and Figures

The hose connector hinges to be flush with the outer diameter of the hose so that it can be installed through the caisson from which the hose hangs. Once the hose and its adjacent hose are in place, the connector can be rotated 90 degrees and connected to the adjacent hose via ROV.

The benefits of the hose connector are:


• Hoses are prevented from clashing
• The connections can be removed via ROV if the hoses need to be replaced

• The outer footprint of the hoses is not affected so the hoses can still be installed and retrieved through the steel caisson


• Prevents designing the hoses for clashing
