Abstract

The Downhole Tool External Face Cleaner is a device that will be used to clean debris off of downhole tools by isolating the channels in the design of the tool. By isolating the channels, the Downhole Tool External Face Cleaner will collect and control the debris from the outside of the tools with greater efficiency and lower health, safety and environment risk than the current field practices. The Downhole Tool External Face Cleaner will be used on the rig floor after the tools have been run downhole. After the tools have been pulled completely above the rotary floor, the Downhole Tool External Face Cleaner will be attached to the tool by a shackle or hinge and a pin. The string will be lowered down with the channels isolated, removing the debris caking the external face of the tool and channeling into storage containers for measuring or disposal. A stand would be integral, to elevate the cleaning face off of the floor and allowing for debris to be easily diverted into receptacles for easy surface handling. By controlling debris and quickly removing debris from the tools, operations will continue, saving the well operator time and money.
