Documents of different types (e.g., web pages, portable document format (PDF), text, etc.) are served to users on different devices including laptops, smart devices, etc. Many of these documents have lists of Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) to bookmark. For example, a student taking an online course might receive a long list of URLs to bookmark for course content. Clicking on each link to open the page and then bookmark it is a tedious task. A tool is needed to automatically bookmark and tag links

from a web page.

Current bookmark management tools help a user synchronize bookmarks across instances of the browser, and some allow the user to annotate and share bookmarks. These tools do not provide any automatic annotation or bookmarks.

The novel contribution is an electronic note pad that automates the action of annotation relative to a target document the user is reading or reviewing.

The tool scans the document that the user is viewing, and then automatically annotates and bookmarks the links in the document (or section of the document) per the user's specifications. The user does not need to, click on each link, open a browser window, and manually bookmark the page. The annotation can use the subject of the document and/or the section where the links exist.
