A Method and System for Embedding Navigation History into a Link

Locating a website may become a tedious task when a Universal Resource Locator (URL) for the website is not readily available with a user. Remembering URLs for multiple websites is not always easy, similarly, keeping bookmarks for all such URLs is not feasible. Also, at times, a user may request another user to share a URL for a

website. However, when a URL is obtained from other users, the user may not come to know the manner in which the URL was searched/located. For example, what

keywords were used, what website was visited first, what links were clicked to get the

URL. Therefore, there is a need for a method for sharing navigation history associated

with a URL while sharing the URL.

Disclosed is a method and system of embedding navigation history into a link. The method and system enables a sender to send a navigation history with hidden metadata along with a link from a sender side. A recipient retrieves the navigation

history on a recipient side and saves the navigation history while saving the link.

In an implementation, the method and system enables a user to share a link with or

without a navigation history associated with the link. While sharing the link, the user may decide if the navigation history is required to be embedded with the link.

Accordingly, when other user receives the link, the other user is able to access the navigation history associated with the link. The navigation history enables the other user to understand how the link was searched/located. The navigation history may be captured using a browser plugin. The navigation history includes search patterns and navigation details across various links for reaching to the link.

In an embodiment, the method and system facilitates creating a bookmark for the link
