Abstract

When users search a key word in a document, it always returns a list with very limited information to target the exact search result the user is looking for. Without a prejudgement, it could be very time consuming and inefficient for users to swim blindly through the sea of search results. This invention provides a quadrant map view to display search results in text searching. In the quadrant map, the following rich context parameters are displayed for each result record to help users quickly identify the information that they are looking for. • The keyword hit numbers • The location in the whole content • The reading number of times • The topic type

When users search a key word or a phrase in a document, it always returns a long list of all search results according to the sequence of their occurrences in the document.Users need to go through each and every search result and check if it is the content that he is looking for. The information included in the search result is very limited. No additional content, such as context, the name of the chapter and topic that the search result is located, the hit number of the searched key word or phrase in related chapter and topic, and so on, is provided for the user to quickly spot the hot zone of the target word or phrase. Without a prejudgement, it could be very time consuming and inefficient for us to swim blindly through the sea of search results.

This invention provides a quadrant map view to display search results in text searching. In the quadrant map, the following rich context information is displayed for each result record to help users quickly identify the information that they are looking for.

The keyword hit numbers


The location in the whole content

The reading number of times


The topic type

A new option for displaying search results in quadrant map is provided. As shown in Figure 1, when users search the document, they can select to display the search results in a quadrant map or in a list.

If users select quadrant map as the displaying form, a pop-up window containing the quadrant map is displayed to help users quickly find the target topic, as

With the quadrant map, the search results in a document are organized and displayed in the following way:

The titles of the chapters that contain the result topics are displayed in the horizontal axis; the keyword hit numbers are displayed in the vertical axis.


Each bubble stands for a result topic that contains the search keyword.
Click the bubble to open the topic. After users read the topic, if they want to go back to the quadrant map, they can click the
Quadrant Map button in
