System and Method to Increase Alertness of a Driver by Providing or Initiating a Conversation

Sleepy drivers are dangerous. Often, a driver doesn't know when they are sleepy until it is too late. There are a lot of strategies drivers attempt in order to try to stay awake (music, windows open, etc.). There is also a lot of art in this area to attempt to wake up drivers in an intelligent manner, such as various sensors to measure when a driver is falling asleep and use an alarm or other method to wake them up. However, the main weakness of the existing art is taking an action that will keep a driver awake for a longer period of time. What is needed is a method to identify when a driver is soon to fall asleep and take an action to keep them awake for a period of time by initiating a phone call.

Proposed is a novel and non-obvious system and method to keep a driver awake by intelligently initiating a phone call to an available contact (or service) in which a driver is likely to have an engaging conversation and can include topics to discuss and a message to the recipient of the situation (need to stay awake for X time).

Description of the invention: 1) Determine when a driver is nearing a point of falling asleep [*]

2) Take a social action to keep user awake a) request a call i) send a message to a user requesting a conversation
a) user may be from contacts who are currently available
b) may be a stranger in a similar situation (driving, sleepy, etc.)

                 i) may bias selection of a stranger based on similarity in time remaining on their respective routes ii) may bias selection of a stranger based on similarity of known preferred...
