Abstract

A method and system is disclosed for utilizing closed caption data to trigger advertisement (ad) injection events into video streams.  The method and system identifies one or more keywords and/or phrases appearing in closed caption data for injecting ads related to products that appear in the video stream.  The injected ads can be such as, goods or services ads placed in context of movies, music videos, a story line of television shows, or news programs.

Description

Disclosed is a method and system for utilizing closed caption data to trigger advertisement (ad) injection events into video streams, as video stream overlays, or as Native ad placements in content streams below the player.  The injected ads can include goods or services ads placed in context of movies, music videos, the story line of television shows, or news programs.

The method and system identifies one or more keywords and/or phrases appearing in closed caption data and triggers an ad request which injects the ad content related to product(s) that appear in the video stream.  In an embodiment, a database of keywords may also be used to compare keywords/phrases appearing in the closed caption data of the video stream.  Based on the one or more keywords and/or phrases and/or existing database search data, one or more ad creatives are injected into the video player as an overlay.  Alternatively, the one or more ad creatives could be injected into the native stream below the rendered video stream as a stream ad.  Similarly, the one or more ad creatives could also be injected into a user generated comment steam about the programming prompting users to buy the products that are currently being shown (directly/indirectly) into the original television or online video programming.
