Disclosed is a method and system for measuring and automatically identifying correct tools. The method and system identifies the correct tools without any trial and error methods, while alleviating a need for searching the correct tools required for a project. The method and system not only measures nuts and bolts, but also automatically points out a correct wrench or a socket with an indication light.

Figure 1 illustrates a measuring device which includes a readout window in accordance with the method and system disclosed herein.

As illustrated, a rotatable handle groove controls opening and closing of a measuring "claw" at the other end of the measuring tool. As the rotating piece is moved clockwise, the measuring side of the measuring tool closes as appropriate, in the manner of a claw or even much like a drill clasping on a drill bit. When the rotatable handle is rotated in counter clockwise direction, the measuring device opens up more. The measuring device includes a readout window and one or more selectable controls which are utilized to read a measured output so that the size of the tool such as, nuts and bolts can be measured and the appropriate/correct tool can also be identified. The readout window includes an accurate grip indicator which indicates status of the measuring claw in different shades such as, green, yellow and red based on the grip position towards the nuts and bolts.

Consider a scenario, wherein a correct tool needs to be identified. In order to do so, the below steps are followed:

1. As a user moves the rotating piece in a clockwise direction, the measuring device closes until the point of contact i.e., full closure around the bolt. At that point, the measuring device identifies the size of the bolt. When the rotatable handle is moved clockwise to engage the three gripping handles to fully engage the measured bolt, the rotating handle stops and the accurate grip indicator turns green.

2. The internal dial reaches the stop point where the rotatable handle fully grips the bolt and is indicated in the accurate grip indicator. The internal dial corresponds to a predefined bolt size which is digitally displayed on the readout window. The readout value is displayed depending upon one or more selectable controls i.e., an imperial or metric selection.

3. The three gripping claws are opened up by rotating counter-clockwise direction to loosen, and the accurate grip indicator indicates that the claws are not gripping the tool such as, a nut, a bolt, an object.

4. For each position while rotating, the "reader" is also associated to a specific size. For example, while rotating clockwise, the reader passes 8/16, then 7/16, then...
