Abstract

In this disclosure, a patch service platform is used to concurrently apply patches for images in a cloud environment based on image management policies. The disclosure includes the following major components: service console and service infrastructure. The service console uses the component " System Controller" to control related requests, record the data into database and provide user interface to system administrator. The service infrastructure is built on a Linux server to implement patch service.

Normally, a cloud administrator needs to manage a lot of images in a cloud management platform. In particular, there are hundreds of images that need to be maintained in a development and test cloud platform. This will lead to need many efforts to apply patches for images in a cloud platform.

In a cloud environment, patching for the virtual systems and images is critical for the security compliance requirement.

Patch management is a very key and important task for a cloud platform.

The traditional method of patching on images is to change them to virtual systems and then turn back to image after patching.

Patching on the image directly will be the most efficiency way for patch management.

In this disclosure, a new method and mechanism is proposed to apply patches for images concurrently from image library in cloud environment.
